We are all Pakistanis now.

Message to Mustaqbal Website From Mr Ahmed Sayeed

PAKISTAN WAS COME INTO EXISTANCE ON THE TWO NATION THEORY ----- HINDU & MUSLIM AND ALL STRUGGLE MADE KEEPING THE BASE IN FRONT. AFTER INDEPEDENCE THE HINDUS ARE PROUD TO BE HINDUSTANI BUT THE MUSLIM DID NOT ADOPTED THE NAME PAKISTANI INSTEAD THEY BECOME PUNJABI, SINDHI, BALOCHI, PATHAN/PAKHTOON. BEFORE 14TH AUG. 1947 ALL THE INHABITANTS OF SUB CONTINENT ARE HINDUSTANI BUT THIS NAME HAS BEEN GIVEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO MIGRATED FROM INDIA TO PAKISTAN AND STILL THEY ARE CALLED HINDUSTANI INSPITE OF FACT THAT THEY AND THEIR FATHER WERE BORN AND BROUGHT IN PAKISTAN. DEAR CHAIRMAN--- YOU ARE ALSO BELONG TO PUNJABI COMMUNITY HOW YOU WILL OVER COME TO THIS BASIC ISSUE IGNORING YOUR PUNJABI-ISM FEELINGS

Nadeem Qureshi's Response

Dear Sayeed Saheb,

Thank you for your thoughtful message. You are right. Somewhere along the road we took a wrong turn. The specter of parochialism raised its head. We are still paying the price.

Why did it happen? I'm not sure I know. What I do know is that our parents and grandparents went through a travail that one would not wish on one's enemies. The pain, suffering and sacrifice to achieve this land - Pakistan - ranks high amongst the tragedies of history. And in the vanguard of those who sacrificed everything they had were the people you refer to as 'Hindustani'. They left everything behind in pursuit of a dream. Little did they know that the dream was to become a nightmare.

That many of these wonderful selfless people - both who were native to this land, and those who came from without - were unable later to stop the catastrophic slide into parochialism remains a mystery. But it is not for us - handed our homeland on a silver platter - to sit in judgment of those who delivered it to us. They have done their bit. Now we have to do ours.

I have never thought of myself as anything other than a Pakistani. I have never considered provincial or linguistic affiliation in judging people. The sole criterion has been, and remains, sincerity and competence, period. This simple core value stands irrevocably at the heart of our movement.

If parochialism is in our past and our present, it does not have to be in our future. We, you and I, and the thousands who are now part of this movement can end it.

And we will.

Regards
Nadeem

what is your vision of pakistan for the muslim world? what do u mean we must be friends with eu and usa? in terms of wars with which they have invaded our lands, looted us and tried to destroy our spirituality and wisdom and our image as muslims, how do u plan to counter these issues.

Thank you for your message. You have posed some thoughtful questions. Let us take them one by one.

Vision of Pakistan for Muslim world.

There is no doubt in our mind that Pakistan should have been the leading country - in all respects - in the Muslim world. That it is instead of being looked down at and thought to be amongst the ranks of failed states reflects the abject failure of our politicians. And why should we surprised? Just look at our politicians. These people who are not qualified to run a 'paan' shop. And here they are running (or rather failing to run) a country of 170 million people.

The answer must be, as we at Mustaqbal Pakistan have conceived it: The best of Pakistan's people, not the worst must come into politics. Can this really happen? We think it can. The time is right and we have what we know is a winning strategy. Will we succeed? All that we can say is that failure is not an option.

Relations with the EU and America.

There are two issues here. The first has to do with past colonial transgressions. And the second with still continuing wars on 'terror' in Muslim lands.

The colonial period has gone, the damage done, and amends, such as they are, made. It is impossible to undo the past. And as thoughtful practical people we cannot continue to dwell in a bygone age. So we move on.

The modern transgressions represent a bigger problem. For one they are unjustified and ongoing. And for another, they have resulted in the heartless killing of tens of thousands (some would say hundreds of thousands) of innocent Muslims. Three thousand innocent people died in the September 11 attacks in New York. Perhaps a thousand times this number have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan either directly or indirectly by Western military action. Mr. Bush Jr and his cronies have given new meaning to the phrase 'an eye for an eye'. And the killing continues.

So what are we as Muslim countries to do? First, we need to differentiate western people from their governments. When Mr. Bush attacked Iraq, many of his own countrymen were against it. And today, the vast majority of people there think it was wrong and should never have happened. So, is it wise to hold the entire American people responsible for the actions of their government?

Our view at Mustaqbal Pakistan is that we must learn the lessons of the past. Lets understand that we get attacked because we are weak. Had we the the economic and industrial strength possessed by the West no one would dare attack attack us. So what we need to do is to focus our efforts on developing our economies and building our industries. In this, and in this alone, lies the ultimate defense against criminal and unwarranted invasions of our lands.

As far as relations with the EU and America are concerned, our view is that we should not hesitate to extend a hand of friendship to people of good will wherever they may be. And if this means going over the heads of misguided or criminal leaders, so be it.

Your aim seems to be noble. But why havent u made your party a little more famous especially among the youth of Pakistan. I just came across your ad and visited your website. Pakistan direly needs a party like you. Please try to spread your word and aim.Thank you.

Thank you for your message of support.

These are very early days for our party. We are in the process of setting up the organization and infrastructure to publicize the party on a larger scale. It is certainly our aim to spread the message far and wide.

What we would like to say to you is that we are primarily a grass roots movement. It is the people - all of us in Pakistan - rich, poor, old, young, rural, urban, men and women from all provinces - who have to spread the message and develop the support that will inshallah see Mustaqbal forming the next government.

You can help as well. The options available are on our website. Please register as either a volunteer or e-supporter and you will then be part of the growing community that is working to make Pakistan the country of our dreams.
